Chapter 1: Basic Operation

Setting Up vistrax Kiosk

After installing vistrax Kiosk, there are additional considerations you need to keep in mind to ensure that the kiosk system works properly.

1. Prepare Users and Mandators

First, you must set up a user in vistrax Admin to whom the kiosk device will be assigned. To do this, launch vistrax Admin and log in. Then navigate to “User Accounts.”

You have two options here:

a) Use an existing user account

b) Create a separate user account for vistrax Kiosk

Note

We recommend creating and using a separate user account.

For both options, the subsequent procedure is the same:

Assign a role: Under “Mandator Access Privileges” the user account should be granted admin rights for the relevant clients.

Mandator Check-In: In vistrax Admin, under Mandators, you must ensure that Auto Check-In / Check-Out is selected.

Mandator Email Delivery: In order for the visitor to receive an email, you must configure an SMTP server for the client under Messages.

2. Prepare the Building, Department, and Employees

To use vistrax Kiosk, you must create a building and a department in vistrax. If you already have entries here, you can also use the existing ones.

In the previous step, a user account was set up. This user account must now be assigned to an employee in vistrax under Employees. Here, too, you have the option to use an existing employee or create a new one. The procedure is the same in both cases.

Assign User: Assign the previously created user to the employee.

Assign Department: Assign the employee to the appropriate department.

Enter email address: If the employee is to be notified by email, you must enter a valid email address here.

Note

We recommend creating and using a separate employee record

3. Authorize vistrax Kiosk

First, launch vistrax Kiosk by double-clicking the corresponding desktop shortcut or by selecting it from the Windows Start menu. The first time you launch the program, you'll need to enter the connection information for the vistrax server (see vistrax server settings). In addition, when you first attempt to connect, you will be notified that vistrax Kiosk must first be authorized in vistrax Admin under Devices. Once this message appears, open vistrax Admin, navigate to Devices, select the device named vistraxKiosk_DeviceName, and click the Edit button. Next, please proceed as follows:

Assign Users: Assign the previously prepared user to the device.

Select entrance: Select the desired access option.

Visitor Badge Layout: Select the appropriate layout for the printer you are using. If you select <auto>, the system will use the layout stored under Mandators.

You can find a detailed description of the procedure in the respective user guides:

vistrax Web Client: Device management

vistrax Admin: Devices

Warning!

If you selected <auto> under “Device,” the option <none> must not be selected under “Client.”
